CPUSpeedDisplay is a teeny application that runs on any notebook Macintosh. It does exactly what it says: It displays the current CPU speed in Megahertz. I originally wrote this utility to aid me in developing MyBattery, but I've posted it as a resource for anybody to use if you ever question the speed your computer is running at.
Older PowerBooks (any PowerBook with a 68000 or 68030) can run at two speeds - "full speed", which is obviously faster, and "reduced speed", which is slower but prolongs your battery life. Newer PowerBooks that use either the 68040 or PowerPC run at a single, fixed clock speed. To handle the faster clock speeds of the PowerPC models, a new method for returning the clock speed was provided. CPUSpeedDisplay can handle both the old and new methods.
This program runs on any portable Macintosh (Macintosh Portable, PowerBooks, or Duos). It will also run on any PCI Macintosh that supports the Power Manager. It is freeware.
